At last Fall has come and so has my favorite wine subscription box!!! Salut September!!
This Season's Box was freshly picked just for me (and few others) lol! It also includes a couple bottles you may want to save for the Thanksgiving table. For me ...that's going to take some seriously harsh discipline! I can never say enough good things about this subscription box. I'm from the Okanagan Valley, but I'm subscribing to a wine club from Eastern Canada. It's sad that we cannot buy Eastern wines in our local liquor stores. Lucky for me .... I can still get wines from back East. Not only through the ClubK you can also buy online from their website.
$119....that's it for the six bottles every Season!! Shipping and handling included.
Each box typically includes four reds and two whites, and occassionaly a bubbly or rose.

Going from Left to Right here's a little something about each of these wines:
STRATUS 2013 KABANG RED - Stratus is normally all about big, serious wines. This blend is not as serious. It's more about ready to drink and easy to fall in love with. Kwaf's Taste Bud, Lindsay Groves enthuses "Here's your NEW go-to red!" I love go-to reds! When I go to the liquor store and I don't look lost, it makes me feel somewhat like a connoisseur of sorts. My plan is to get in and out of the liquor store as FAST as I can. Also, it might be my third or fourth time that week in the same store. I don't want them to think I'm some sort of lush!
NOTES: Black fruit, red berries and cedar accents, with vanilla and spice. Dry and full bodied with a sweet spicy finish.
PAIR WITH: Pasta with tomato sauce (I can totally make that!), grilled sausages and rapini; meat pizzas and lamb. Pairs well with spicy.
DOMAINE QUEYLUS 2013 CABERNET FRANC TRADITION - As soon as I see a Cab Franc made by anyone I want it! I'm a HUGE Cab Franc fan!! This Cabernet Franc grapes are from Ontario, which is easy to do since their climate is similar to that of France where Cab Franc is a shining star. This is considered one of the BEST Ontario Cabernet Francs the kwaf Taste Buds have tasted! That's quite the testiment!! You had me at "Cab Franc"!
NOTES: Pure black, blue and red berries, a touch of plum and savoury herbs and spices. Just a hint of warming oak to add to it's exquisiteness!
PAIR WITH: Osso Bucco (like I make that always) LOL. Lucky for me it pairs with a lot of food so you can pair it with anything you love!
BROKEN STONE 2015 SIMPLICITY - As it's name states .....so is it's story. A Toronto family dreams of country living and owning a small winery. They started in 2009 developing and by 2012 their dream was complete. Not that that feat is a simple as that sentence sounded. This white blend of Pinot Gris and Vidal is crisp, bright and fruity...an easy white. Take advantage of the warmer fall days and sit on your patio sipping this beauty. Very refreshing.
NOTES: Fresh green apple, stone fruit, citrus pitch with some nuttiness. Light, dry and clean finish.
PAIRS WITH: Sunshine, charcuterie, fish tartare, caprese salad, bbq'd chicken sammies and white pizza. Have you ever had a perogy pizza? I imagine this would go great with that pizza!!
ROSEWOOD 2013 ESTATE PINOT NOIR - It's all about Fall and the dampness of earth and sultry breezes. The grapes for this wine comes from three vineyards, each with its own soil and micro-climate. Gently aged in seasoned oak barrels, leaving the wine to keep delicate and woodiness kept in check. A gentle, silky Pinot.
NOTES: Juicy fresh and dried fruit (raspberry, red cherry) and strawberry jam, with earthy and dried floral notes. Sweet and gently spiced.
PAIRS WITH: Duck or game, mushroom risotto and truffles (you lucky rich person you!)
THIRSTY BENCH 'STEEL POST VINEYARD' 2014 SMALL LOT RIESLING - This one intimidates me. Okay.... 'intimidates' is a strong word. This one will test my will power for sure. Can I save it for Thanksgiving?? That will be the true test. According to The ClubK masters this is Thirty Bench's BEST!! Their quote "This wine floats like a butterfuly and stings like a bee"! A Great quality Riesling with aromas and fresh like a cool breeze, bursting with exotic fruit. Intense and firm with a grand acidity.
NOTES: Pure and clean apple, citrus and exotic fruit, with lots of lime, honey, florality and wet stones (that lovely slate feeling!) Slight residual sugar adds a touch of sweet.
PAIRS WITH: Another wine you can enjoy pretty much anything.... but here's where Thanksgiving comes into play. Great with Roast Birds. Turkey and Cabbage Rolls it is! As much as I hate losing Summer, I love Fall and Thanksgiving! Also, you can drink this with spicy Thai and curries. That's a huge range of meals you can enjoy with this wine.
RED TRACTOR 2013 CABERNET MERLOT - This wine didn't make it past the first night it was delivered to our house. It is only $14.95 a bottle, but drinks like a $30 bottle. So much was going on in my glass(es) of wine last night. Generous fruit, medium weight and soft texture. Enjoy now.... which exactly what I did! LOL
NOTES: Ripe jammy fruit, lots of blackberry and black cherry, baked plum and cassis. Really nice cedar and spicy pepper notes in the background.
PAIRS WITH: Good meaty things like beef burgers and roasts, but also works along side of lighter fare. Last night it was sitting beside my curried shepherds pie, while watching Australian Masterchef. After dinner I poured another glass, pulled up my minky blanket and enjoyed it on it's own. Yumm! and Amazing deal! I will have to buy a case of this for sure!!
WHAT BETTER TO GO WITH GREAT WINE ..... A BEAUTIFUL CHARCUTERIE PLATTER INCLUDING MEAT FROM CARNIVORE CLUB
