I really enjoy receiving Try the World boxes every month. The detail and quality shines through every time I open their box. December's Holiday Box is full of incredible food and good cheer. What more can you ask for than to have a food box prepared by a Michelin Restaurant Chef?! Chef Thomas Raquel is the pastry chef at Le Bernadin, a three star Michelin Restaurant in New York City. Besides curating the products included in the box, he as well shared some recipes to use these world-wide culinary treats.

Spiced Bread Mix

MARLETTE Pain D'Epices Spiced Bread Mix - FRANCE

The sister team, Margot and Scarlette, formed a small French company that provides easy bake-at-home products. It is a traditonal French holiday cake made of freshly milled, organic flour and a variety of spices. I made the bread in individual muffin tins and served with butter and honey. So incredibly tasty!!

PINEAPPLE CAKES

EN LUEN Pineapple Cakes - TAIWAN

Each little buttery cake has a sweet and tangy jam filling. This Taiwanese treats are a popular gift given during Lunar New Year, representing "the arrival, prosperity and fortune". The ingredients include wheat flour, malt, sugar, vegetable oil, carrot fiber, sweet potatoes, eggs, milk, pineapple, salt and spices. That is another Great thing about this subscription is that it pushes us to try food that we normally would never try if we had to buy straight from the store. I have seen these cakes in our local supermarket and never gave them a second glace. I have a feeling we will be including these in our cart next time we go shopping!

K'EKUA Hot Chocolate Tablets with Cinnamon - MEXICO

K'ekua uses only the Best Mexican Cocoa Beans. Not only that K'ekua helps marginalized communities by employing the indigenous people of the area. I am so happy they added Cinnamon to this lovely hot chocolate. Cinnamon is full of many health benefits. Melt these tablets in milk for a yummy post-dinner dessert. Mix with coffee to make a lovely mocha.

Shortbread Cookies

SPRUCEWOOD HANDMADE COOKIE CO. Canadian Maple Classic Shortbread - Canada

Being Canadian I am very fond and proud of our maple syrup. Now I am also very fond of this company and their shortbread cookies! The founder of Sprucewood has sourced all his ingredients right from the heart of Northumberland County in Ontario, Canada. He also believes less is more. You will not find more than six or seven ingredients in his pure cookies. Mark Pollard is Chef and Founder of Sprucewood Handmade Cookie Co. Congratulations on your amazing Canadian Maple Classic Shortbread! "C" is for Cookie and Canada ... That's good enough for me!! (Cookie Monster - Sesame Street)

DARLING SWEET Honey and Salt Toffee - SOUTH AFRICA

The Duo behind this toffee, Frits and Hentie, hire only locals to make their signature sweets since its beginning in 2013. Darling is an town in South African known for its amazing butter. That is the base to what makes this pure buttery, rich and creamy toffee. Another great thing is they wrap their sweets in recycled and biodegradable packaging.

YOFFI Date Spread - ISREAL

Dates are a popular food throughout the Mediterranean. They are a symbol of good luck. Yaffi uses dates from the ripe fruit gown on a community farm in Isreal. The company as well provides work for disabled individuals in the same community. I am excited to try this Date Spread in the Date & Honey Tart recipe provided my Michelin's Chef Raquel in this box.

LEMON CURD

FOX GOURMET Lemon Curd - UNITED KINGDOM

Fox Gourmet makes their lemon curd the old fashioned way by cooking it over open pans. The English fruit preserve is made with only lemon, sugar and eggs. In the late 19th century, people would serve this handmade preserve to guests that visited for tea. We made homemade cream scones and had the curd with them. Sooooo Delicious!

GIULIANO TARTUFATA Truffle Sauce - ITALY

It was an Irish Setter in 1980 that ventured into the forest with his owner and the owner's grandfather. It was the dog's great sense of smell that led Giuliano to find his very first truffle. That then led Giuliano to start this company and create a wide range of truffle products, including this sauce. Eat alone on a cracker or baguette, or add to any of your favorite pasta dishes that you normally would add mushroooms or would require some earthy notes.
