Upon opening this box it made me instantly dream about going to Greece. I have always wanted to go and now this box has confirmed it! The curator was born and raised in a Greek home in New York City. Diane Kochilas spent her carrer as a chef promoting all things Greek! She wanted to take this box beyond gyros to give us a full Greek experience from all over Greece with each item personally selected by her. She has been on numerous TV shows, including "Throwdown with Bobby Flay".
The box included recipes I am excited to try. The brochure also includes detailed descriptions of each product included in the box, a map and guide.

DELICIOUS CRETE 'ROSEMARY-INFUSED OLIVE OIL' - This aromatic olive oil comes from Crete. Crete is a larger island South of the mainland known for its agriculture and cuisine. This heavenly scented olive oil works great as a marinade for any desired protein. As well, as a great condiment to a fresh loaf of bread.
BAKING STORIES 'BREADSTICKS' with Kalamata Olive Paste and Oat Grains - This breadsticks come from the Village of Stavrakia on Crete. This company only uses natural ingredients and stone-ground wheat flour to ensure its high quality and flavor. A perfect mezze (appetizer) dish on it's own, with dip or crumbled into the best breadcrumbs ever added to a recipe.
ARTION 'SPICY PEPPER PASTE WITH FETA CHEESE' - Is produced from the highest quality ingredients of Greek nature and adds an authentic taste on your table with numerous combinations of antipasti. You can use this as a dip to accompany breadsticks, add to pasta or mix into any sauce to amp up the flavor.
STORIES OF GREEK ORIGINS 'TZATZIKI SPICE MIX' - This spice mix comes from a small business in Athens that promotes local traditions with a pure focus on their ingredients. This being one of the more well known Greek dips featuring all hand-picked herbs. Add this mix to yogurt and top with olive oil. Serve with Keftedes (meatballs), Souvlaki or as a dip.
PALIRRIA 'DOLMAS' - Palirria is a family-owned company that opened its doors in 1957 and have committed to wrapping their dolmas by hand. This dolmas are made with soft grape leaves that are grown in nutritent-rich soil of Evia and stuffed with rice, dill, mint and onions. These are great on their own or part of a mezze.
776 DELUXE 'TRAHANA' - The company got their name from the very first Olympic games in 776 BC which took place in ancient Olympia. 776 brings you Grecian pasta called Trahana. It is hearty in nature and is an ancient staple that was used by shepherds in porridges and soups. This SWEET Trahana is made with sheeps milk. Try Tahana in place of rice or couscous in your recipes. Trahana will add a unique taste treat to your risotto, thick soup or stew. The brochure card in the box included a recipe for 'Ikarian Fisherman's Soup' with Trahana. I cannot wait to make this!!
SWEET MAGIC 'KOURAMBIES BISCUIT' - This family business based in Athens, has been baking Greek sweets for over 30 years. These biscuits are make with whole almonds, sprinkled with powdered sugar and are derived from a traditional grandmother's recipe. Handmade with simple ingredients and a scent of tradition, it combines the past with the present and it is a treat at every joyful event. Much like a shortbread cookie, these light, buttery biscuits can be dipped in coffee, crumbled over ice cream or sandwich with caramel.
VASILISSA 'PASTELI' - Pasteli is a traditional Greek confection sold at street kiosks everywhere through Greece. The Vasilissa faimly farm has been cultivating raw honey using sustainable methods in Evia, a fertial isalnd just North of Athens, since the 1950's. Eat as a snack (the original energy bar), add it to your granola or top any dessert.
