Everyone deserves some downtime. I think that’s why I enjoy reading so much. The idea of getting lost in a book thrills me! Another thrilling thing is when I receive a SWEET READS BOX <3<3 Another Amazing Canadian Subscription Box!! SWEET READS BOX is ‘Me Time. Delivered’! This month’s SWEET READS BOX is a doozie of many amazing treats to showcase this month’s book. The curator of SWEET READS BOX pays strong attention to detail and it’s always enjoyable to see what items are found striking enough to coordinate with the month’s chosen novel. This month’s novel is about the hardships and challenges for the key character, Susanna Moodie. An English woman who agrees to leave behind her growing career as a writer to follow her husband from her beloved Suffolk to the backwoods of Canada. John Moodie is an ebullient man with a weakness for money-making schemes, and he is convinced that riches await them in the New World. It is the 1830s, and despite their dreams, Susanna is woefully unprepared for life in the wilderness. Since the book is mostly about her life in the wilderness, SWEET READS BOX included all things wild. I’ll share with you below.

SWEET READS BOX is a monthly book subscription box that includes a carefully curated box showcasing the novel of the month. The novel will be chosen from a top bestseller list (i.e. Globe and Mail, NY Times)

In addition to your novel you will receive:

  • an item connected to your novel’s storyline/theme/setting

  • a delicious drink to set the mood.

  • a sweet treat to enjoy while reading

  • a card explaining our choice of novel and how your items connect.

Subscriptions start at $54.99 CDN per month, with cost savings if you purchase more than one month at a time.

SWEET READS BOX – AUGUST 2018

the lost diaries of susanna moodie

THE LOST DIARIES OF SUSANNA MOODIE by Cicily Ross

An extremely well-written page-turner about an incredible and heroic woman, who lived a life in the Canadian bush in the 1800’s that none of us can really imagine. But Ross has done that for us, telling the dramatic story of real people, struggling with everything from the brutal elements, to cheats and ne’er do-wells, to their own human frailties . And at the core is a roller coaster love story. The author’s skillful story-telling brings to life a history, and a woman, we should all know about. Put it on your reading list for summer, or for any time.

cookies

SPRUCEWOOD HANDMADE COOOKE CO. – Canadian Maple Classic Shortbread

Maple syrup is still being made just as it was when Susanna was alive. These Maple shortbread cookies are made with the ingredients that more than likely would have been readily available as she would have made back in her day. Keeping with tradition, these shortbread cookies are made with only the finest, all natural ingredients. Perfect to pair with the British tea also included in this month’s box.

tea

TEA LEAF COMPANY INC – Epic Day Organic English Breakfast Black Tea

The English hot drink of choice. The Tea Leaf Company Inc. has created the Best cup of tea I think I ever drank. The curator makes reference to a special part in the story referencing the ‘tea set’ and something that happens that does not go so well with said ‘tea set’. Interesting …. I can’t wait to get to that part in the book.

NOW DESIGNS – Blueberries Swedish Dishcloth, Wild & Free Dishtowels and Boris Bear Sugar Saver

Being that all these items were suited to the theme of this box, recipients of SWEET READS BOX received some spectacular household items that are both stylish and creative. Everything from the bush featured in the book and as well in my kitchen. If you never tried a Swedish Dishcloth, do yourself and big favour and buy one (or many). They clean dishes sparkling clean and leave countertops streak free. Not only that, they look super neat at your kitchen sink. Also, these dishtowels are so dang cute, I haven’t had the heart to use them yet. So they’re hanging on my oven door for now. Then there’s the Boris Bear Sugar Saver. A pantry should always have at least one.

deer coasters

F AS IN FRANK PAPER GOODS CO. – Deer Coasters

Just as we have here by my home, Moodie also lived in an area where deer were very prevalent. Not only a food staple for settlers, but the indigenous population as well. These coasters have made themselves a nice home on our coffee table. Not only do they look sharp, they’re elegantly protecting my furniture.

sweet reads box

As with all SWEET READS BOX, you know you will receive a perfectly chosen book, with a box filled with many items that you will continue to enjoy long after you are done your novel. The reason I enjoy SWEET READS BOX so much is because each month they deliver a Top Bestselling Novel, with many cool items that entice you to dive right into the book and discover each piece as the story unravels. Another great item included in each box is the product card detailing the contents. This month’s quote included on the product card was one I vividly remember from reading ‘Wild’ by Cheryl Strayed.... “I realized there was nothing to do but go, so I did.” An absolutely perfect quote for this book! As with Cheryl in ‘Wild’, Susanna Moodie in this month’s book did the same thing. Survived the wild. Brilliant curating once again from a Brilliant curator.

Don’t waste another minute and subscribe to SWEET READS BOX now to be in time to enjoy September’s Box!
